Welcome to the Robot Standards Wiki

Captains Log, Stardate 6 July 2008

A common language to and about the machine…

The reason for this site is to collect and share thoughts regarding commonality in unmanned systems. The commonality we can identify can be shared and used to create standards. These standards will aid in the advancement of the industry.

We can work together to build a site that serves each of us individually as well as together as a community. The collective approach to promoting standards will also be used to develop the organization of this wiki. In fact, start by expanding or modifying the following notional list of necessary standards:

  • A Taxonomy & Ontology for Robotics
  • Logical Interoperability (Service Standards)
  • Communications
  • Physical Interfaces (Electrical & Mechanical)
  • Performance Measures

Translating back to English…

This effort is not intended to be tedious or boring. We will pursue relevant discussions across related fields of study to produce meaningful input to the standards. We will discuss robotics beyond the deep submersible and self-driving car so that the applicability of the discussion extends beyond today's robotics. We will add dependable, dynamic and diligent to "dull, dirty and dangerous" to help expand the role of these machines.
